Stories launch

Stories are live: your next adventure starts with Luna or Budo

Today we’re launching Stories in AI Pets. You can now choose an adventure, play it with your pet and help decide what happens along the way.

A pixel-art wizard explores a world unfolding from a scroll, with a mechanical wolf across the canyon
neokarma.md gives your characters a world to explore, in one readable story file.

Talk to your character, ask about something they’ve noticed or suggest what they should do next. You might help someone out, follow a strange sound or make a decision that sends the story somewhere unexpected. You can start in your browser, without a device, and bring your adventures to a supported ESP32 when you’re ready.

We’d love you to start with Luna or Budo. They show two very different sides of what we’re building.

Luna brings curiosity, kindness and a little lantern to her adventures. Her world has room for small discoveries and people who could use a hand. In Luna and the Lost Lullaby, a music box found after a storm leads her through the countryside in search of its owner. It’s a good place to begin if you want something gentle and a little funny.

Budo comes from the world of Endgame Industries. He’s a miner shaped by a lifetime underground, with a dry sense of humour and little patience for nonsense. His stories explore a rougher world, with adult themes and characters trying to get through another day.

The Endgame universe begins after an age of plenty. The smartest AI has lost interest in humanity and left. The people who remain live under a lesser AI controlled by an elite. Budo gives us a way to explore that world through one person’s life, work and encounters.

You can meet Budo on AI Pets and read more about the connection on our About page.

Behind Stories is neokarma.md, the open story format we’ve been developing. It puts a story’s world, characters, voice, rules and important moments into one readable Markdown file. You can also add game elements such as dice, dangers and blessings.

That makes a story something you can open and change yourself. You can write one from scratch, start with Luna’s example adventure or create one with your AI agent. Open the agent spec, choose “Copy full spec for AI” and paste it into your agent’s chat. Describe the story you want to make, then work on it together.

Community stories give you another starting point. Saving one creates your own copy, which you can edit without changing the original. If you want to share your version, you can submit it for publication as a fork, with credit to the story it grew from.

This launch is a beginning. Some things are still a work in progress, and we’re finishing more community pets and refining Budo. Expect rough edges as we keep improving the characters, stories and playing experience.

But you can already come in and play. We’d love to hear where you went, what your pet did and which moments felt right or went wrong.

Sign in to AI Pets, choose Luna or Budo, and try your first story.
